Rational Number
Today is going to be your exciting day after reading this article you will begin to understand one of the greatest confusing topics in math since your childhood, Guess what I am talking about yes absolutely correct i.e., about Rational numbers in the simplest words.
Rational Number -
Definition: It is a simple ratio of two integers. Where the denominator term i.e., integer present as a number should not be zero.
Ratio = Numerator / Denominator = First integer / second integer .
Note - The second integer will not be equal to zero While the first integer can be zero.
Ex- 0/1 = Rational number Number
i.e., ZERO is a Rational Number.
1/0 = It is not a rational number. When the denominator becomes zero at this stage we call it infinity in math for the deal this type of situation we study Calculus.
More Example of Rational Number - 1/2, 2/3, 4/5, 11/23,etc/
OR
Definition- A number p/q is a rational number if p and q are integers and q is not equal to zero.
Note- q can't be equal to zero because division by zero to any number is not defined and the result of it is called infinity.
Mathematically, 1/0 = Not defined = infinity ( )
Example- 8/13 , 10/23 , 0/1 , 23/15 etc/
Doubt-
Q1. Are all natural numbers are rational numbers?
= Yes all natural numbers are rational numbers. Counting numbers are called natural numbers.
Ex- 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10-------------------- positive infinity.
Q2. Is '0' a natural number ?
= Yes we can write zero as 0/1 where denominator term is zero and it can be zero so, it is a natural number.
Q3. Is 3/4 is a rational number ?
= Yes because 3 and 4 are integers and denominator is 4 not zero.
Q4. Is -7/8 a rational number?
= Yes because -7 and 8 are integers and denominator is 8 and not zero.
Q5. Is 0/6 a natural number?
= Yes, it is a natural number, as 0 and 6 are integers, and the denominator is 6, not zero.
Q6. Is 8/0 a natural number?
= It is not a rational number because here denominator part integer is zero which should not be.
